Blogoversary Party Day 5: Expose Yourself to Art

Renoir's "Luncheon of the Boating Party
(I just wanted to have this beautiful painting on my blog)
And they are partying, more than boating...

Expose yourself to art. That was the catchphrase of Bud Clark, the mayor of Portland when I came to live here in 1990.

That's the mayor himself, being true to his word, in his pre-mayor days. So, here's the question of the day: if you weren't a writer, what other art would you practice? Perhaps you already practice it. I'd love to hear about it.

Prize of the day: (Leave a comment and you'll be in the draw)

From Amazon: In this book, Elizabeth Lyon offers novelists the wisdom of her experience as an author, book editor, writing instructor, and marketing consultant. Step-by-step, she details what editors want, what questions to ask them, and how to develop a marketing strategy.

About the Author: Elizabeth Lyon (an Oregonian) has been a contributing writer to Writer's Digest and is a mentor, editor, and teacher for many writers.

  1. Well, I am not really a 'writer' in the implicit meaning of the word so maybe I shouldn't be answering this.

However the art I would love to have mastered is mathematics; the only means by which it is possible to picture the intricacies and wonder of the multi-dimensional universe.

And failing that I would like to have been an (good) operatic tenor at The Met during the 1930s.

  2. I paint. Badly. In watercolours. But I enjoy it so who cares about the results?
(Now why can't I feel like that about my writing?)

  5. I would have liked to sing. Well, I do sing, but I would have liked voice lessons - and I would have liked to play the piano really well and not have to read music all the time.

  6. Besides writing, I draw, carve, paint, do illuminated artwork, and refinish furniture. I am crazy...

  7. I would love to be able to draw or paint but I was never bestowed with that talent. But I can still enjoy looking at art and thank you for reminding me of that fact!

Thank you for popping by my blog today. I will posting a follow up to the comment question tomorrow.

  8. Mom & siblings all draw and paint....the joke is I can paint walls. :)

I sing in the car but would hate an audience. I'm happier behind the scenes...thus the writing thing.

My honest answer is odd...I love working on my family tree so working in a Genealogy/Local History Museum would be fun to me. Family history is an art form of some sort, right? :)
