Microfiction Monday: Beachcombing Bill and Ben

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's the world's best meme, coming to you from Susan at Stony River. One of the highlights of a dangerous writer's week. Enjoy.

(ALERT: THE FOLLOWING MAY BE CONFUSING UNLESS YOU KNOW ABOUT 1950s & 60s BRITISH TELEVISION PROGRAMMES)

After flowerpot liberation, Bill and Ben were beachcombers, with a new friend: Little SeaWeed. 'Twas cleanliving, with all the soap ashore. (139 characters)

(Thought I'd give my British readers a trip down memory lane. "The Flowerpot Men" were big in my youth. You can read all about them and their friend, Little Weed here--if interested.)

Thanks in advance for your comments. I look forward to visiting in return over the next couple of days.

  5. That's real nice, Michael.
I had not heard of The Flowerpot Men. They must have come up in one of the inky interludes between one of my several lives.

  10. I enjoyed reading about the Flowerpot men, using the link you gave. The old beachcombers look abut the right age of the liberated flowerpot men in 2011. I see that Little Weed has cleaned up his act! Very cute!

  19. So I DIDN'T dream up Flowerpot Men! That's great news...everyone I've asked around here says they can't remember them--but the song still spins in my head..."Bill and Ben, Bill and Ben...Flowerpot Men, Flowerpot Men"....
I didn't know it was a British show though--must have been on CBC...thanks for the trip down Memory Lane!
